Omar Epps was born Omar Hashim Epps on July 20, 1973, in Brooklyn, New York. He was raised by a single mother following her divorce from his father. His mother, Bonnie Maria Epps, was a teacher turned headmistress and then principal.

In 1999 he stepped up his game to appear in four different films; The Mod Squad, JE n Too Deep alongside Stanley Tucci and LL Cool J, Le Bois with Taye Diggs and Richard T. Jones, then in Breakfast of Champions. He continued his good run of performances in Love and Basketball (2000) where he portrayed Quincy, an NBA prospect and love interest of Sanaa Lathan’s character Monica.

In 2004, Epps played a boxer in the biopic Against the Ropes before going on to star in another medical drama. This time was a recurring phenomenon on House MD where he portrayed Dr. Eric Foreman until the show ended in May 2012. For his performances on the show, Epps earned six NAACP Image Award nominations for which he won three (2007, 2008, 2013).
