Hurney began his career as a sportswriter for The Washington Star, where he worked until the publication’s circulation doubled. Following that, he worked as a beat reporter for the Redskins and the Washington Times of the same publication. Marty gradually took over the team’s public relations and followed the publication’s General Manager to the San Diego Chargers. Similarly, he worked quickly on organizational tasks such as creating internal divisions and overseeing player contracts and discussions.

Hurney joined the Carolina Panthers as director of football administration in 1998. In another season, though, his title was changed to director of player operations. Marty’s administrative skills earned him a promotion to General Manager for the Panthers in 2002. Hurney was the organization’s active leader for eleven years. In 2012, however, he was abruptly fired by the club. The Panthers’ reasoning was that Marty was a ‘old school’ person who wasn’t very analytical or data-driven.

However, he was re-hired as the club’s interim General Manager after the Panthers re-hired him. His Panthers career was put on hold once more when they placed him on paid leave to examine his activities.

Hurney was being investigated to see if he violated the league’s private conduct policy. Later that month, he was reinstated by the club; no sign was initiated. He was hired as the Panthers’ full-time general manager, but he was fired again in 2020. Marty appoint as the executive vice president of the Washington football team after years of upheaval with the Panthers. He continues to hold the position to this day. Hurney also purchase an ESPN radio station after being sack by the Panthers in 2012. Then, suddenly, while airing a live show, a car crashed into him.

Hurney marry to his wonderful wife Jeanne Hurney for almost two decades. They even have a son named Joe Hurney who was born to them. On January 23, 1988, these two lovebirds married, and Mrs. Hurney took the place of Ms. Muraco. Joe, meanwhile, is 26 years old in 2021 and a graduate of Charlotte Catholic High School. Since his final year of high school, Junior Hurney has been a football player. Despite receiving offers from many Ivy League schools, he currently plays for the University of San Diego. Joe is also pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering.

Marty Hurney’s ex-wife Jeanne accused him of harassment and domestic violence after the couple split up in 2014. Jeanne even attempted to get a restraining order against her ex-husband, but the court dismissed her request. The Judge eventually ruled that there was no evidence that Marty had committed crimes of domestic abuse, but the NFL was still looking into the matter. Furthermore, Jeanne accused his ex-husband of being excessively domineering and violent, but she later withdrew the claim. Marty charge by the NFL since the Judge verified his innocence.
