These accusations, nevertheless, were unfounded. In response, Scott wrote to correct the record and make it clear that he was neither antisemitic nor anti-Israel but rather a fervent admirer of both.
He said that he supported Penn’s Jewish community and denounced the terrorist acts against Israel.
He clarified that academic freedom protected the event, which included Palestinian authors, and that it was not sponsored nor organized by the university but rather by a separate student organization.

While attending Penn, Scott Bok and Roxanne Conisha Bok became friends and eventually married.
She moved into High Rise North (now Rodin College House), just across the hall from him, as a transfer student. After Penn, they fell in love and were joined in marriage in 1981.
With a bachelor’s degree in English from the College of Arts & Sciences, Roxanne Bok is another Penn alumni. Roxanne is an animal lover and writer.
Her story of relocating from Manhattan to a rural area of Connecticut and rearing horses on a farm is chronicled in her book, Horsekeeping: One Woman’s Tale of Barn and Country Life.
She supports several animal welfare groups in addition to serving on the board of the Penn School of Veterinary Medicine.
After more than 40 years of marriage, Alexander and Caroline Bok are the two offspring of Scott and Roxanne Bok.
Alexander Bok is a Penn alumnus who graduated from Wharton with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He presently works for his father as a vice president at Greenhill & Co.
Caroline Bok is a history bachelor’s degree holder from Yale University. She is now enrolled at Harvard University to pursue a master’s degree in public policy.
Additionally, Scott and Roxanne Bok have given generously to Penn and other organizations.
They created the Scott L. Bok Scholarship Fund at Wharton, the Bok Endowed Visiting Writers Series Fund at the Kelly Writers House and the Bok Family Professorship in the Humanities in the School of Arts & Sciences.
They also contribute to other charitable projects, including the Lyme Land Conservation Trust, the New York Public Library, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
