Anthony Harris Bennett is a Canadian basketball player who now plays for the P. League’s Kaohsiung Steelers as a power forward.

The basketball player began his career at Mountain Slate Academy in Beckley, West Virginia, before transferring to Findlay Prep, a basketball preparatory school in Henderson, Nevada. Bennett then spent the 2012-2013 season at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He did, however, suffer a shoulder injury halfway through the season, which limited his game time.

Bennett later declared for the 2013 NBA draft, and the Cleveland Cavaliers selected him as the first overall choice.

Firstly Anthony Bennett was born on March 14, 1993, in Toronto, Canada, to Delroy Harris and Edith Bennett. He had two older siblings, a sister named Danielle Bennett and a half-brother named Sheldon Lewis, as well.

Secondly His mother was an immigrant single mother who supported her family by working two jobs. She worked in a mental health center and a hospital. She was born in Jamaica and spent her teenage years playing netball and running track and field.

Careers in High School and College

Anthony attended Harold M. Brathwaite Secondary School in Brampton. At the age of 16, he moved to Beckley, West Virginia, to play basketball at Mountain State Academy.

Anthony moved to Henderson, Nevada, to play for the basketball preparation academy Findlay Prep after the school closed a year later. Furthermore, in the 2012 high school class, the Canadian player was the #1 forward and #7 overall.

Before enrolling at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, he restricted his collegiate options to the University of Oregon and the University of Nevada.

During the 2012–13 season, Bennett played 35 games for the University of Nevada in Las Vegas Runnin’ Rebels.

He began his career as a power forward, although he also played small forward on occasion.

However, due to a shoulder injury, the player was forced to miss the majority of the season.

In addition, his playing time was reduced to allow him to relax, and he even came off the bench in a couple of games. After making it to the NCAA tournament, UNLV was defeated in the second round by California.

Anthony declared for the NBA draft in April of that year.

Professional Career

Anthony was invited to the NBA draft green room as one of thirteen players, signaling that he was a first-round pick. He was the first Canadian to be drafted first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

After a spate of poor performances to begin his rookie season, he was branded by some as one of the worst first-round picks in NBA history.

Bennett was then traded however to the Minnesota Timberwolves on August 23, 2014, as part of a three-team deal that also included the Cavaliers and the Philadelphia 76ers.

On September 28, 2015, Anthony signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Raptors, his hometown team.

Despite the Raptors’ best efforts, the veteran was waived on March 1, 2016, due to his inability to grasp the fast-paced world of the NBA.

Bennet later signed a two-year contract with the Brooklyn Nets on July 14, 2016, and made his debut on October 29, 2016.

Despite numerous attempts, his game did not appear to be improving. As a result, on January 9, 2017, the Nets waived him.

He’s also played for Fenerbahçe (2017), Northern Arizona Suns (2017), Maine Red Claws (2017–18), Agua Caliente Clippers (2018–19), and Hapoel Jerusalem (2021–22) since then.

In addition he is currently a member of the Taiwanese P. League+’s Kaohsiung Steelers. On February 9, 2022, he joined the team.

As a result of the trade, he became the NBA’s highest-drafted player to play professionally in Taiwan.

Bennett participated in the 2009 FIBA Americas Under-16 Championship.

Anthony also participated in the 2010 FIBA Under-17 World Championship.

In addition, after declaring for the NBA draft in May of 2013, Anthony Bennett had to undergo sleep apnea and asthma surgery.

Furthermore, on February 21, 2015, while playing for the Timberwolves, he was ruled out for two weeks after injuring his right ankle the day before in a game against the Phoenix Suns.

Similarly he had arthroscopic knee surgery while playing for Hapoel Jerusalem before being released on October 9, 2021.

Due to various injuries and setbacks throughout his career, the veteran footballer has not been able to live up to people’s expectations.
